MQTT
Lightweight publish/subscribe messaging for IoT systems
Overview
What is MQTT?
MQTT is a lightweight publish/subscribe messaging protocol widely used to transport IoT telemetry through a message broker. It allows connected devices and gateways to publish data that authorized applications can consume without requiring every application to connect directly to each device.
For example, a gateway can publish sensor readings to an MQTT broker, allowing an IoT platform, dashboard, and rules engine to receive the relevant data through their own subscriptions.
Why MQTT
Key Features & Benefits
- 1
Decoupled Messaging
Publish sensor readings once for delivery to authorized subscribers.
- 2
Flexible Payloads
Carry structured application data through clearly defined topic namespaces.
- 3
Service Reliability Choices
Select appropriate Quality of Service (QoS) levels and retained-message behavior for the application.
- 4
Transport Security
Use TLS encryption, authentication, and topic-level access controls where supported.

Support
How BoxTech Supports Your Project
BoxTech works with IoT solution providers, resellers, system integrators, and software partners to bring the hardware and technical requirements together.
We can help structure MQTT topics and payloads, configure supported device clients, and validate secure message delivery between brokers and partner platforms.
Support may include hardware sourcing, sample testing, configuration guidance, compatibility checks, and integration assistance, subject to selected products and agreed project scope.
Before You Deploy
What to Validate
- Choose QoS levels appropriate to the application's delivery requirements.
- Test reconnection behavior following network or broker interruptions.
- Confirm retained-message settings and their intended use.
- Verify authentication, topic permissions, and secure transport configuration.
